Metal bar grating can be defined as a series of metal bars positioned vertically, placed an equal distance apart and joined by cross members to form a rectangular or reticuline pattern. Typically manufactured from mild carbon steel, 6000 series aluminum and 300 series stainless steels, bar gratings are also available in specialty metal alloys to suit nearly any application
The vertically positioned bars are designated as the bearing bars. These bars range in size from 3/4"x1/8" for light pedestrian traffic to 7"x1/2" for extreme vehicular loads. Typically, the spacing of the bearing bars is indicated in sixteenths of an inch, measured from the center of one bar to the center of the adjacent bar. This center-to-center or "on center" spacing ranges from 7/16" to 19/16"(1-3/16") on standard grating products. Standard gratings are also available with wider spacings providing even greater open area, but should not be specified without consulting the manufacturer. Heavy Duty grating products are commonly manufactured with bearing bar spacings ranging from 15/16" to 38/16"(2-3/8") on center.
The bars used to secure the position of the bearing bars are commonly designated as the cross bars. Cross bar profiles vary according to the method of assembly and material selected. As with bearing bars, cross bar spacing is measured as "on center" spacing. The customary cross bar spacing is 4" on center. On special order, 2" on center and other special spacings are also available.
Galvanized steel grating is an ideal product for wet, slippery situation where corrosion resistance is vital. They are hot dipped galvanized in the galvanizing bath. The galvanizing bath has got 7 tank surface cleaning process, the purity of the zinc used for hot dipped galvanizing shall be 99.95% pure. The galvanized coating shall be as per IS-3202/IS–4759/IS–2629/IS–2633/IS–6745, ASTM–A-123 or equivalent to international standards. The appearance of its surface is plain or serrated.
Galvanized steel grating is made from mild steel or aluminum formed by a special mechanically press-locked process that eliminates any welding therefore avoiding any weld stress problems that may occur with other designs.
Surface Treatment: hot-dipped galvanized
* Long service life
* Excellent load bearing capabilities.
* Ventilation of air, light, sound.
* Dont collect liquid and debris.
* Wide range of open areas.
* Can be purchased in stock sizes or custom fabricated to meet the project specifications.
* Galvanized steel grating has an unmatched surface. It is also a permanent replacement for slippery serrated and plain grating.
* It's available in many different styles and spacing options to meet a variety of needs and applications.
* High strength: the strength and the toughness are much higher than cast iron. It can be used for terminals, airport, other large-span and heavy loading condition.
*Anti-theft design: the cover and the frame is joint with hinge offering security, safety and open convenience.
Galvanized steel grating is widely used in most general industrial plants as well as commercial buildings, it has wide applications as walkways, platforms, safety barriers, drainage covers and ventilation grates. It is also ideal for use as mezzanine decking since it supports the same loads as comparable solid flooring. More than that, its cost saving openness maximizes the circulation of air, light, heat, water and sound, while promoting cleanliness.
